ChatGPT Ads for Hotels: Can a Small Hotel Advertise in ChatGPT Yet?
Partly. OpenAI sells ads in ChatGPT through agencies and a beta self-serve Ads Manager, charged per click or per thousand views. Hotel property feeds, which list hotels with photos and a starting price, are a limited beta for approved advertisers only. A small hotel can test ordinary ads now, if it can measure bookings.
Guests now plan trips by asking ChatGPT. OpenAI has started selling ads there, and its developer pages describe a hotel format in testing. This guide covers what a small hotel can actually buy, using only OpenAI's own announcements and advertiser documentation, read on October 19, 2026.
What are ChatGPT ads?
They are sponsored results shown with ChatGPT's answers. OpenAI said in January 2026 that it would test ads in the US for logged-in adults on the free and Go plans, shown at the bottom of answers when a sponsored product or service is relevant to the conversation (OpenAI's ads principles). Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans have no ads. OpenAI says ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers, are clearly labeled, and that conversations are not shared with advertisers.
On May 5, 2026, OpenAI opened buying through agency partners and a beta self-serve Ads Manager, which it says it is opening to more businesses gradually (OpenAI's announcement). In Ads Manager a business registers, adds payment details, sets budgets and bids, uploads ads and sees results.
Can a hotel list its rooms in ChatGPT ads?
Not yet, for most hotels. OpenAI's Ads documentation describe hotel property feeds as a limited beta "available only to approved pilot advertisers", and say it is not an open beta. Each row of the feed is one property, not a room or a dated stay. It carries the hotel's name, description, landing page, photos and location.
The feed can include a base price, which OpenAI calls a static starting price, "not a quote for a particular stay or a statement of room availability". Fields such as check-in date, taxes and fees are not used. So this is not a live rate feed like Google Hotel Ads (see Google Hotel Ads for small hotels). If you show a "from" price, US total price rules apply.
Keep a clean property description, good photos and a direct landing page ready. Those are the required fields of the hotel feed, and they help in every other channel too.
How do you pay for ChatGPT ads?
By click or by view. OpenAI started with cost per thousand impressions and added cost per click in May 2026, saying advertisers using clicks are only charged when someone clicks. Its Ads documentation on bidding describe three bid strategies:
| Strategy | You pay for | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed bid | Views or clicks, at the bid you set | A small test where you want control |
| Maximize clicks | Clicks | Traffic to your booking page |
| Maximize conversions | Clicks, optimized for a conversion such as a booking | Hotels that already track bookings |

Campaigns can target countries, regions and markets, the ChatGPT apps or web, and customer lists. OpenAI publishes no minimum price or typical cost per click, so we do not quote one.
How do you measure bookings from ChatGPT ads?
With OpenAI's measurement pixel or its Conversions API, which OpenAI launched so advertisers can see actions such as a purchase after someone engages with an ad. Advertisers get totals, not individual conversations. Add UTM tags to the landing page link too, so Google Analytics shows the visits and bookings in your own reports. Our guide to tracking which ad brought a booking explains how, including the cross-domain step most hotel booking engines need.
Should a small hotel try ChatGPT ads?
Only as a small, measured test, after the basics. ChatGPT ads are a beta with no published benchmarks for hotels. Free booking links, your Google Business Profile and email to past guests come first, then one proven paid channel; see where to spend a first ad budget. If you test ChatGPT ads, judge them the way you judge every channel: cost per booking against what a booking site's commission costs you on the same stay. To see that number for your hotel, try our savings calculator.
Being recommended in ChatGPT's answers, without paying, is a separate question.
MarginStay helps independent hotels bring in direct bookings through ads, so we have a stake in this topic. Everything about ChatGPT ads comes from OpenAI's announcements of January 16 and May 5, 2026 and its Ads documentation, read on October 19, 2026. This is a beta and changes often, so check OpenAI's pages before you spend.
ChatGPT ads: quick answers
Can hotels advertise on ChatGPT?
Yes, with ordinary ads. OpenAI sells ChatGPT ads through agency partners and a beta self-serve Ads Manager that it is opening gradually. A special hotel property feed, with photos and a starting price, exists only as a limited beta for approved pilot advertisers. Most small hotels can therefore test standard ads, not the hotel format.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
OpenAI publishes no price list or minimum. Advertisers set a budget and either pay per thousand views or per click, and OpenAI says click-based advertisers are only charged when someone clicks. Start small, track bookings, and compare cost per booking with what a booking site's commission costs you on the same stay.
Who sees ads in ChatGPT?
OpenAI said ads would be tested with logged-in adults in the US on the free and Go plans, and that Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans have no ads. Ads are not shown to users it believes are under 18, or next to sensitive topics such as health and politics.
Do ChatGPT ads change ChatGPT's answers?
OpenAI says no. Its ads principles state that ads do not influence the answers ChatGPT gives, that ads are separate and clearly labeled, and that conversations are kept private from advertisers. Being mentioned in an answer depends on ChatGPT's search, not on buying ads.
